chapter six
When I woke up, my head felt heavy and I felt a little dizzy. I sat up and tried to figure out where I was. Then I remembered.
“…the next time you fall asleep you’ll go to you 13th birthday…” I looked at the clock. 5:59 AM. Gosh, why couldn’t I go back to the same time I was at before? Oh well, at least I would have time to figure things out now. This was the same old house I’d grown up in, so at least that wouldn’t be too hard. I quietly pulled back my covers and climbed over Zac on his trundle bed. He stirred, and I was afraid he would wake up. I guess it really wouldn’t matter. He knew what was going on. I explored our room first. By the time I was done, I had found nothing.
“What are you doing?” I turned around.
“Hey Zac.” Okay, I reminded myself, I’ve got to remember that Zac is only ten.
“I’m not stupid,” he said, lowering himself to the floor so he was sitting next to me. I looked at him.
“Don’t tell me you can read minds too,” I said. This was weird. Too weird. He nodded, a happy smiled on his face.
“Okay,” I said, “what else can you do?” He shrugged.
“Nothing. But I can read minds and fulfill your wish.” I thought about this for a second. I had just gotten an idea.
“Hey Zac,” I said.
“Yeah?”
“You said you could fulfill my wish, right?”
A nod.
“Well, could I ask you something?”
Another nod.
“Could you make it so that I go to, like, the day after my birthday or something? Or like the day it really was? What was it, June?” He thought about this for a minute.
“Yeah, probably, sure.”
“Well, will you?”
“Yeah, sure, but then you’ll have to go through being 16 and 19 again. And then you’d go to 13 again and so on.” I shrugged.
“Sure whatever, let’s do it.”
“Okay. Sit down and close your eyes…”
